COWICHAN, B.C. - The Eastern Door and the North’s midget lacrosse team downed Team Manitoba to wrap up the bronze medal today at the North American Indigenous Games. Although it wasn’t the medal they were hoping for it was still a good showing on behalf of the young Mohawk lacrosse players from Kahnawake and Akwesasne.

After playing a stellar round robin going undefeated, downing Manitoba 16-8, Team New York 9-7 and Team Saskatchewan 17-1. However, they ran into stiff opposition in their semi-final against Team Ontario, which is made up of players from Six Nations.

The Ontario squad proved to be too much for Team EDN as they lost 9-7. Their lone loss in the tournament proved to be a costly one, as it took them out of contention for the gold medal.
Going into the game against Manitoba it looked like it was going to be an easy path to the bronze medal. However, Manitoba wasn’t going to be taken lightly. Although the EDN boys controlled the whole game, Manitoba was able to tie it up at 4-4 in the second period.

After the Manitoba squad tied up the game Team EDN picked up the pace, which proved to be too much for Manitoba. The EDN squad downed Manitoba 16-5 and clinched the bronze medal.
In rifle shooting Shakowennenhawi Deer finished the kneeling event in fifth place and took fifth overall.

In golf Trevor Lazare started off the day in third place, just four shots behind the leader, while his teammates James Lazare, Roiatate Horn and Mack Kirby all were in the top ten of their divisions. During today’s final round James Lazare knocked in a hole-in-one on the sixth hole at the Cowichan Golf Club.

At the end of 54 holes, Trevor Lazare earned himself a bronze. Mack Kirby finished in the top 6.
